PRESS RELEASE:
May 15 - 21, 2022 National Police Week offers honor, remembrance, and peer support, while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. This week, we gather to pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who sacrificed their lives in service to our country.
In 1962, President Kennedy issued the first proclamation for Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week to remember and honor law enforcement officers for their service and sacrifices. Peace Officers Memorial Day, which every year falls on May 15, specifically honors law enforcement officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. As we observe Peace Officers Memorial Day, we salute all members of law enforcement nationwide who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2021. We will never forget their service and ultimate sacrifice they made to keep our communities safe. On Friday evening May 13th, the names of 619 fallen officers from 2021 were added to the wall at the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Candlelight Vigil in Washington, DC. The City of Kimberling City Police Department also participated in the End of Watch Service May 14th for Crane City, MO Marshall David W. Waymire 1864-1927.
